Turner Contemporary:

Grayson Perry: Provincial Punk

Available on Samsung Gear VR, Google Daydream, Oculus Go and Oculus Rift.

This Boulevard experience features eight works of art: three tapestries, four ceramics, and one bronze sculpture by British contemporary artist and media figure Grayson Perry, spanning 1995 to 2014.  All of these pieces were selected from a larger 2015 show of Perry’s work at the Turner Contemporary, in Margate, England. These eight objects offer a window into the artist’s fascination with pop culture bending- blurring lines of high and low, historical and personal, fine art and craft, and good and bad taste.

*Note: some content may not be suitable for younger audiences.

Users can move around the gallery space and study any tapestry or ceramic. A zoom feature for all objects allows for close looking; users can rotate the three-dimensional objects to view them from any angle. A tablet offers extended written labels and information about the Turner Contemporary. Audio narration is provided by Karen Eslea, Head of Learning and Visitor Experience at the Turner Contemporary.

Activating the “double Os” on the wall to the right of the “Sex, Drugs and Earthenware” pot brings up a panel that allows users to customize design aspects of the gallery environment– letting them curate their own exhibition experience. Users can choose floor treatment, wall color, lighting, sound, and props.
