John Constable (British, 1776-1837)
Hampstead Heath: Branch Hill Pond, Exhibited at the Royal Academy 1828
Oil on Canvas
23 ½ x 30 ½ in. (59.6 x 77.6 cm)

Constable painted several versions of this composition. It is based on an oil sketch. The finished painting may be that praised by a critic as, ‘a rich and varied piece of coloring…A shower has apparently just passed over, and a few flitting clouds throw their flickering lights and shades over the country.’
