Thomas J. Loughman, Ph.D.Director and CEO, Wadsworth Atheneum

    Dr. Thomas Loughman is the Director and CEO of the Wadsworth Atheneum. Between 2013 and 2016, he served as the Associate Director of Program and Planning at The Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. Previous to this, he acted as Assistant Deputy Director for the Clark. From 2004 to 2008, Dr. Loughman worked at the Phoenix Art Museum, first as an Assistant Curator of European Art, and then as its Director of Exhibitions, during his final year. In 2008, he participated in the prestigious Getty Center Museum Leadership Institute, and has been deeply involved with several AAM initiatives over the last five years.

    Dr. Loughman received his Ph.D. from the Rutgers University, Department of Art History, and his MA in Art History from the Williams College Graduate Program. He obtained his AB from Georgetown University, for a double major in Fine Art and Government (International Relations).
