Travel Back to 1776 and Test Your Knowledge of the American Revolution

New York, NY July 20, 2017 – Boulevard is pleased to announce an exciting new way to learn about U.S. history. Enter the Boulevard app lobby and look for the wooden barrel and wagon wheel. Atop the barrel, unroll the scroll and read the secret instructions to begin your time-traveling journey. To ensure a successful American Revolution, players must piece together clues and decipher an important message. This experience is available to all Boulevard app users on the Samsung Gear VR and will be included in a pilot program with Middle School students in Fall 2017.

Eight texts and works of art from the U.S. Capitol, the Library of Congress, and the White House are gathered in an abandoned barn. The Revolution is in full swing – is this a smugglers’ den, a secret meeting place or a time traveler’s lair? Gather information from primary sources and other objects to complete Operation Independence.

Players interact with Thomas Paine’s Common Sense and John Trumbull’s painting Declaration of Independence, along with several other American artefacts to unlock a secret message for colonial spies of the period. Solving puzzles inspired by spycraft of the late-18th century gives a sense of immediacy and closeness to the material. Players become a part of the story, by feeling as though they have a stake in the outcome of U.S. history.

Boulevard encourages users to reach out with feedback about Operation Independence at or on any of our social media channels.
